Mega Man Balance Changes

Leaf Shield is hard to escape even when Mega Man is positioned badly, back air is close to unreactable in neutral, and up tilt kills reliably behind a wall of projectiles.

Balance Philosophy

Nerf around three moves per character that are too oppressive inside an already strong kit. Not every suggestion needs to be implemented.

Proposed Changes

Each entry lists the move or ability affected, the adjustment itself, and — where the analysis states one — the problem it is meant to solve and the reasoning behind it.

  1. Down special (Leaf Shield)

    Nerf
    Proposed adjustment
Rotation moves slightly slower, at about 14 frames per hit.
    Current issue
It is hard to escape even when Mega Man is not positioned optimally.
  2. Back air

    Nerf
    Proposed adjustment
Start up changed to frame 6/9/12.
    Current issue
It combos reliably and can be unreactable when thrown out in neutral.
  3. Up tilt

    Nerf
    Proposed adjustment
    Slightly less knockback.
    Current issue
Even though it is risky, it kills reliably while the opponent is overwhelmed with projectiles.

Where The Source Is Unclear

  • The source lists back air under nerfs but says it "should have a lower start up," which contradicts the stated problem of the move being unreactable. The intended direction is unclear.
